City of Grand Junction

Close to Everything

HOUSING OPTIONS

Lots of housing options in the city area, although it’s hard to find new single-family homes. It’s not hard to find single-family, townhomes or condos, although you won’t find many homes on large lots. Plenty of apartments in the city area, including the brand new Eddy of Grand Junction a luxury apartment complex just east of Las Colonias park that has recently begun leasing and should be complete sometime this year. Several other apartment projects are working their way through planning, development and the construction processes in the city center area.

PUBLIC PLACES TO ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

Lincoln Park: It’s one of the city’s oldest parks, and it’s home to a nice nine-hole golf course, playgrounds, a public swimming pool and splash pad, lawn and picnic areas, pickleball, tennis courts, and the football and baseball stadiums used by high schools, CMU, the JUCO tournament and the Grand Junction Rockies.

Las Colonias: One of the newer parks, featuring a disc golf course on Watson Island, a playground, a river access area to the Colorado River, the gentle river park through a river channel, a dog park, picnic areas and the Colorado Riverfront trail, which runs through the park. A SUP vendor maintains a rental kiosk at Las Colonias when the river park is flowing. The Botanical Gardens is also at Las Colonias. There is a commercial RV park on the east side of Los Colonias currently under construction that will provide an urban camping experience for visitors.

The Riverfront at Dos Rios: There is a bike park at the Riverfront at Dos Rios, along with public restrooms and the Colorado Riverfront Trail, which runs through Dos Rios and into the Riverside area, where there is parking, basketball hoops, a playground and picnic areas.

Plans are working their way through the planning and development process for residential and retail opportunities at Dos Rios. If someone walks from Las Colonias to Dos Rios on the riverfront trail, there are several bridges across the river that feature some fabulous spray paint public graffiti-style art.

Downtown: For more than 50 years, downtown Grand Junction has featured an outdoor sculpture exhibit, with more than 100 sculptures on display. Some of the sculptures are permanent, while others are on display for a year; it’s always fun to go walk downtown, enjoy the shade, the shopping, the flowers, the dining and the public art. Although Main Street used to be the primary place to find restaurants, retail and sculptures, the charm is spreading north and south, and there are a variety of restaurants, bars and interesting shops from Pitkin to Grand, and First to Seventh.

ENTERTAINMENT, SHOPPING OR DINING

Yes to all three, with plenty of restaurants near the downtown core, as well as bars and clubs for music, the Avalon Theater and the amphitheater at Las Colonias. A vibrant downtown also offers shopping, although there isn’t a downtown grocer.
