Fruita Ranked Among State's Safest Cities

In a list of the safest cities across Colorado, Fruita finds itself in the top 15, at least according to one organization.
With a safety score of 81.36, compared to no. 1 Cherry Hills Village at 90.44, Fruita ranks 15th after the city recorded a decrease in property crimes.
The list, composed by Security Baron, a consumer-focused website centered on security, looks at the 50 safest cities in Colorado based on a variety of factors including murder rate, theft rates, police officer rates per 1,000 people and median household income, among other factors using the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting data.
Fruita, Security Baron reports, has a violent crime rate of 1.93 per 1,000 people with a property crime rate of 13.26 per 1,000.
While property crimes showed a downward trend, violent crime was reported to be up slightly.
Firestone, which ranked No. 9, was reported to have a violent crime rate of 0.67.
Fruita's citizen-to-officer ratio of 1.31 compared favorably to most of the cities on the list. Cherry Hills Village, for comparison, had a citizen-to-officer ratio of 3.29. However, its violent crime rate was reported to be 0.3 per 1,000 residents. The median income was more than four times what was reported in Fruita.
